Sunday 02‑06‑2002 Noord‑Veluweroute

Today we cross the Wolderwijd by ferry. For some time it's the connexion between Flevoland and Gelderland over water. After that we cycle through Harderwijk with fishing harbour, yacht harbours and terraces. Until in the French time the coins of Gelre were stroke here. Then we arrive in Nunspeet, a place to start exploring the Veluwe, but much of the restaurants and museg are closed on Sunday, because of religious conviction. Also memorials from the 2d world war you can find here. North of Vierhouten is situated the Vierhoutense Heide (moor), where they meanwhile planted foliage trees and fir trees. After that we pass Vaassn, just outside the village is the Royal Forestry, which is open all year. It's an interesting area, because off all the sources. Quietness and space you still can find in the area around Eispeet and Staverden, where we cycle against the weir embankment and return with less power, north of Putten to the former Zuiderzee and Zeewolde. Putten is famous because during the 2nd WW they deported most male inhabitants. Nowadays it's a holiday place where the number of inhabitants doubles in summer.

Sunday evening there will be a possibility to stroll around with people from the forestry department. Start at 19.00 hrs.
